The Philadelphia 76ers, also known as the Sixers, are an American professional basketball team. They are based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division.
The team was founded in 1946 as the Syracuse Nationals. They moved to Philadelphia in 1963 and were renamed the 76ers in honor of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
The Sixers have won three NBA championships, in 1955, 1967, and 1983. They have also been the Eastern Conference champions nine times, most recently in 2001.
Some of the most famous players in Sixers history include Allen Iverson, Julius Erving, Charles Barkley, and Wilt Chamberlain.
