Lester Don Holt Jr. was born on March 8, 1959, in Marin County, California. As a young boy, he always aspired to become a broadcaster, mimicking famous figures in front of a mirror. Holt attended Cordova High School in Rancho Cordova, California, where he actively participated in the debate and drama teams. After graduating in 1977, he pursued a degree in mass communication from California State University, Sacramento.
Journalism Career
Holt began his journalism career as a news anchor and reporter for WCBS-TV in New York City in 1981. Over the years, he has reported on significant national and international events, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Gulf War, and Hurricane Katrina. In 1990, Holt joined NBC News as a correspondent for the "Weekend Today" program. He went on to become a national correspondent for NBC Nightly News and anchored various weekend editions. In 2015, Holt was appointed the anchor of NBC Nightly News, succeeding Brian Williams. Under his leadership, the program has consistently topped the ratings as America's number one evening newscast.
